Part I Tales of Old  Many moons ago after the death of Havi Ravenking, IceClan had become a clan of war and bloodshed. We were overcome with greed and the urge to conquer more territory. We were ravenous in our intent to destroy all who opposed us, and it was in that age Thor Lightning-Chosen succeeded his father Havi as King. He was a brute who took control of SunClan with the help of his fearsome band of berserkers. He slaughtered those he deemed beneath him and his hunger only grew with the power he accumulated. When all seemed hopeless, his brother challenged him for the throne. Loki Silvertongue taunted him into a battle to the death, which Thor gleefully agreed to. They fought valiantly for two whole days, their screams of anger booming across the territories as they clashed. Finally, once IceClan was soaked in their blood, the King slew his brother upon the Mountain of Trials. StarClan had long ago forsaken IceClan for our greed and merciless slaughter of other clans, but kinslaying was the last straw. StarClan and SunClan cursed IceClan to forever endure a Great Winter unlike any other we had seen before. Soon after, the biting winds blew snow from all directions and the warmth of the sun failed, plunging us into an unprecedented cold for all eternity. We became so desperate for food and other necessities that laws and morals fell away, leaving only the bare struggle for survival. Thor Lightning-Chosen was thrown into the sea of salt by his own clanmates and never resurfaced. After his death we fell into an age of fang and claw, brother slaying brother, father slaying son and son slaying father. We were driven back into our own territory, fighting to survive and forced to hill our own kin and clanmates for food. It wasn't until after Ashildr Shadowsinger's reign as Queen that IceClan began to heal from the devastation of past wars and food shortages. Though prey was still scarce and blood feuds broke out, we thanked StarClan for their mercy. Only we did not notice an entirely different being watching us from the shadows.

Meet the leaders

[attr="class","paradebox"] Thor Lightningchosen "Put to death all those who disagree." Since he was young, Thor knew he was meant for great things. He was born and raised on a floating monster alongside his brother, Loki, to a father and mother he remembers little of but deep down in his bones he knew he was meant for more. He listened intently to the stories told by other cats on the monster, awed by the tales of mighty warriors called vikingr who traveled far and wide, conquering territory wherever they went. After a storm wrecked the floating monster, he and the few who survived landed in unknown lands. A group of cats had already made their home there but with sheer might and a stubborn will he managed to overthrow it's leaders and claim the throne for himself, naming himself King. Like the stories he grew up listening to, he gathered rogues and loners and trained them to become vicious berserkers in the clan. Until eventually he had a small army, just enough cats to take over SunClan and AutumnClan's territory. He did so but at great cost, losing half the members of his clan after a bloody battle. His name became feared throughout history and while IceClan whispers it in prayer, the other clans do not.

[attr="class","paradebox"] Ashildr Shadowsinger "True warriors do not show their hearts until claws reveal it." After being cursed with StarClan's eternal winter, IceClan drove itself to near extinction as they brutally killed one another for resources. It was only Ashildr Shadowsinger who rose among the crazed masses and took up the mantle as Queen. In the first days of her reign as she fought to keep control of IceClan, she was challenged six times by other clanmates in a fight to the death. She won every single match, forever proving her strength and determination to ensure IceClan survives. Others admired her for this and quickly tried to gain her favor. Of their efforts she became the only Queen to have five mates at once, a feat worthy of song. For all her sharp cunning, Ashildr could not keep a firm grasp on IceClan as prey became all the more scarce. As she looked over the horizon, her eyes fell upon the blood-red leaves of AutumnClan and she smiled. Shortly after she formed and led the first raid upon their neighbors, killing and stealing whatever they could find outside their harsh territory. It was her who began their tradition of raiding. Ashildr Shadowsinger will forever be remembered as one of the mightiest Queens to reign over IceClan. It was her who saved them all from starvation and extinction - she will live on in lore and song.

[attr="class","paradebox"] Gunborg Wolfslayer “A hungry wolf is bound to wage a hard battle.” Gunborg Wolfslayer earned his name after a legendy fight against a white wolf atop the Mountain of Trials. All believe that he had killed the wolf with fang and claw alone, as all his fellow drengr died before reaching its peak. In truth however, Gunborg watched from the hollow of a tree as the wolf slaughtered his friends, staining the snow red before losing it's footing on a cliff and plummeting into the abyss below. Knowing this was his only chance to increase his reputation, he took the wolf's tail before Ashildr and gained his name. The old Queen was so impressed she named him her Jarl. When she passed away and he became King, he was not what the IceClan cats expected. They thought he would be as fearsome as Thor and clever like Ashildr but he was a coward. He ruled IceClan from the shadows, barely revealing his face as his own Jarl took over in his stead. Gunborg swore day and night that the white wolf would come back for him and it drove him mad. He did not notice the infighting, starving kits and angry berserkers. He did not care. All he could see was the snow-white pelt of that accursed wolf, stalking his every step. Eventually he could take it no longer and he fled his throne, crying out as the raging blizzard swallowed him up. Skalds say that some thought they could see a blur of white fur following him into the night.

[attr="class","paradebox"] Heidrun Twicecursed "Better it is to die in battle with honor, than live in shame". The Seer forsaw two curses being placed upon Heidrun when he was made a drengr. She said that as the last descendant of Thor, he alone would have to suffer and right his kin's wrongs. The first curse was that he and his family would die young and in scorching flames. So that he will know what it was like to lose everything as those who were killed by Thor. Secondly, he will never have a restful sleep as every night will experience multiple nightmares depicting his darkest horrors. And thus after gaining the rank of Berserker, his byname became Twicecursed. Despite his ancestry Heidrun was extremely wise and kind for his young age. So much so that he quickly rose up until he became King of IceClan. He settled disputes among the clan with ease and even made a lasting friendship with MoonClan. He wished to see IceClan grow out of their violent nature into the cats he knew they could become. However for though things seemed peaceful, blood feuds and bickering began to arise. Clanmates fought over scraps although Heidrun did his best to stop them, his efforts were fruitless. To ensure there was less fighting and everyone could be fed, he separated the clan into three camps. One night as he was forced to endure a nightmare, lightning struck the main IceClan camp. The weathered tree in its center burst aflame, showering sparks on all the nearby dens. Half of the camp went up in flames that night, including the nursery. He perished alongside his mate and two kits… yet one of his children survived. A daughter.

[attr="class","paradebox"] Freyr Snowkissed "The problems that lay before you are not as strong as the ancestors that walk beside you.” Freyr was named the most beautiful cat in IceClan since she was young. She was extremely charming and charismatic, so much so that she constantly had suitors at her beck and call. But she wanted nothing from them, not when she knew that she was destined for more. As the only surviving daughter of Heidrun Twicecursed, leadership was in her blood. Alas since her father's and the Jarl's untimely death, none of the surviving thegns could decide on a new King. Despite her lineage and charisma, the thegns thought Freyr too young to be Queen. It was not until the Seer stepped forth and decreed that she was the first IceClan cat in generations to be blessed by StarClan that they even considered her. With the Seer's backing Freyr met every challenge the thegns threw at her and won them all. All bowed before her as she rose to become Queen and much beloved by her clan. She was captivating and wise to all who knew her, even those of other clans. Yet she did not choose mate but dedicated her life to the clan instead.

[attr="class","paradebox"] Skoll Stormbreaker "I never lose. Either I win or I learn." As a young drengr Skoll and his twin Hati had no desire to rule over IceClan but to feast and hunt for the glory of their ancestors. However when the time came to complete the Mountain of Trials, the clan feared for their lives. An old lynx named Storm haunted the mountain and had been killing drengr by the scores for moons. To face it meant certain death. The Queen forbade Skoll and Hati from climbing the mountain, but Skoll was rebellious and unafraid. He and his twin left the clan one night and trekked up to the very peak of the mountain where they were met by Storm. After a vicious fight, Hati was nearly torn to shreds and laid dying in the snow. In spite of his grave wounds Skoll was overcome by burning rage. He threw himself upon the lynx, mercilessly tearing gaping wounds in the beast. Yet it's strength surpassed his own. With an angry roar Skoll hurled himself at the lynx and cast them both over the cliff's edge. Storm's spine broke on impact, killing it instantly and provided enough cushioning for the young drengr to survive the fall. Skoll was given the title of Stormbreaker when he limped back to camp, carrying Hati's unconscious body on his back. After the death of his brother Managarmr, Skoll sought revenge against the clans who let his brother die. But Queen Freyr would not risk war over the death of one skald. Furious, Skoll challenged Freyr for her throne and won, becoming King of IceClan. Upon his coronation he swore that he would make those who were involved in Managarmr's death suffer and that IceClan will once again be the strongest clan in the territories again. Skoll is vicious, commanding and deceptively sly to the point no one knows what his true motives are. He will do whatever is necessary to return IceClan to its former glory, no matter the price he must pay or the blood he must spill.

[attr="class","basicbox2"] Descendants of the Snow Leopard Since the beginning, IceClan believed that the first cats to form their clan were the snow leopards and that they themselves are directly from that bloodline. It would explain the little genetic things that help them survive in their harsh territory such as thick coats, larger paws and massive, strong physique. Even some IceClan members in the past bore the spots and colourings of their snow leopard ancestors and these cats went on to perform great feats. Mates Mating is less traditional in IceClan. They are more free spirited in comparison, as they do not limit themselves to only one mate. In the past there was a Queen who had five mates at the same time. This in no way means that their love and devotion towards mates and potential mates is any less. In fact, it is much more. They are fiercely loyal to those they give their hearts to - whether it be one cat or many - and there is rarely any fighting. However it is a little more rare among Berserkers in comparison to thegns, jarls and royalty. The high positions tend to be more relaxed with their romantic lives and gravitate from one mate to another, or many at once. Whereas the berserkers lean toward the traditional one mate at a time. This is widely accepted amongst the clan and not seen as dishonorable. StarClan Above anything IceClan believes in bringing glory to their ancestors in StarClan through battle and waging war. It is every member's goal to die on the battlefield in a pool of their own blood, with their enemies scattered about them. To them it is the only way they are able to reach StarClan after the treachery that was committed by the first leader. There is no higher honor than bringing glory by slaughtering your enemies in a haze of screams and laughter and blood, only to fall in battle and be carried away to StarClan's halls of feasting. Because of this, IceClan does not fear death but welcomes it with open arms. They feel nothing but a rush of joy and excitement during every conflict, hopeful to bring honor to their kin, clan and ancestors with their own blood and that of their enemies. Another way they believe brings honor to StarClan is through sacrifice. The Seer will conduct blood sacrifices upon an altar just outside the main camp and gift them to StarClan to prove their devotion and love. This will sometimes be a snow hare, fish and lynx but never another cat unless a vision stating otherwise is delivered to the Seer. [attr="class","basicbox2"] Naming Ceremonies IceClan cats deviate from traditional clan names by having a main name and a byname. Their main name is given to them when they are first born and often these names are taken from stories and songs sung by the Skald. ex. Skoll, Baldur, Freyr, Loki, Brynhildr They earn their bynames after completing their Trial and while sometimes they reflect appearance, they are usually named after a specific deed or accomplishment they have completed. Sometimes these names will change if a cat completes a more incredible deed than the last. ex. Skoll Wolfwatcher > Skoll Suncleaver Hati Skyslayer Baldur Seadrinker Freyr Snowkissed Mountain of Trials When drengr are ready to become berserkers and earn their byname, they must travel to the Mountain of Trials and climb to its peak. It is forbidden for them to receive help from their mentors or other members of the clan, with a penalty of banishment and shame. Only a team of up to four drengr can attempt the trials at the same time. It takes three days to reach the top and its cliffs are extremely dangerous to navigate, for beasts lurk upon it. Wolves and snow lynx make their home here and they have quite an appetite for young drengr. Many have died before reaching the peak - either from the life-threatening weather, starvation, other animals or falling to their death. Should a drengr overcome those obstacles, they are to pick a snowdrop flower from the mountain peak and bring it back to the clan as proof, accompanied by a story about the challenges they faced. Once heard, the King/Queen will give them a byname based on their story. Feast of Starlight Once every seven cycles IceClan will gather in the main camp to feast with their clanmates under the new moon. Songs are sung and friends are reunited, old grudges resurface and more often than not, the Feast of Starlight ends in boisterous laughter after a good, bloody fight among themselves. The skald spreads her tales and keeps their spirits up in song and together IceClan honors their ancestors by rejoicing in their triumphs over the past moons. It is a way to make peace with one another and take a moment to re-forge past friendships. Then the next day all the old rivalries and blood feuds return. Raids When supplies get low and the waters prove less than fruitful, the members of IceClan are forced to look elsewhere for their needs. The jarl or King/Queen will call a meeting of the camps and must decide on where and who to raid. More often than not it is AutumnClan's lush forests they set their sights upon., specifically Wintergreen Rise. After a raiding party of berserkers is formed, they traverse the winding, treacherous path of the Wolf's Teeth. Only IceClan knows how to navigate its sheer cliffs and deceptive paths, thus no other clan has dared to follow them into their territory. Most times IceClan raids will only take places close to the border, where they will hunt and gather what herbal ingredients they can find. Should a patrol find them, the berserkers will enter their states of fury and fight to keep what they have scavenged. On very rare occasions will they raid the camp of other clans and only if they are truly desperate. [attr="class","basicbox2"] Leader ◦ King/Queen Kings and Queens of IceClan are chosen by the previous rulers. They are the sole authority over all of IceClan and the three camps scattered throughout the territory. Their rule is absolute, yet other members of IceClan may challenge them at any time in a fight to the death for the throne. Though it is rare and seen as dishonorable by members of the clan. Kings/Queens conduct the feasts, ceremonies and sacrifices as well. Deputy ◦ Jarl The Jarl is next in line to become King/Queen. They are the thegn of the main camp who oversees the day to day problems just as thegns do. When the King/Queen dies, the jarl takes their place and then either keeps the current thegns or replaces them with new ones. More often than not this is the case as each King/Queen prefers to have members loyal to them in positions of power rather than those who were loyal to previous monarchs. Camp Leaders ◦ Thegns There are two thegns of IceClan and each lead their respective camps in the territory. They are next in line to become Jarl should the current King/Queen die. They often compete against one another to prove their worthiness to be named Jarl. They handle the day to day occurrences within their own camp and carry out any of the King/Queen's or Jarl's commands. Any large issues that turn up they immediately bring forward to the crown for judgement. They do not conduct any ceremonies as that duty falls to the ruling monarch. thegns do not organize raids. Only the King/Queen or Jarl may organize any raids. Medicine Cat ◦ Seer Seer's are the most revered cats in all of IceClan. There are three of them, one for each camp. The one who resides in the main camp is called the High Seer who is their leader. They work as traditional medicine cats, but with a more innate connection to StarClan. They often brew potions and tonics that send them into a trance where they can receive messages from StarClan and even peer into the future. Though when they awaken, they only ever remember half of what they have learned. It is they who conduct any sacrifices made to StarClan, among their other duties. By tradition, they wear a string of small animal bones around their necks and paws, along with berry juice stained on their fur in fearsome designs. When seers die they become Valkyries, guides for those who have died. Their Sight is immedietly passed on to their apprentice upon their death. Storyteller ◦ Skald All the songs and stories of their ancestors are passed on through generations of IceClan skalds. There is only one, and they must show an aptitude for music as a young drengr to be chosen as the next skald. They mostly reside within the main camp, but sometimes they will pay a visit to the other groups to spread song and stories amongst their clanmates. Warrior ◦ Berserker The flesh and bone of IceClan, berserkers are the warriors of IceClan. In battle, they are subject to fits of frenzy. They howl like wild beasts, foam at the mouth and shout profanities at their opponents to instill fear. IceClan cats believe that during these fits they are immune to claw and fang, and make great havoc in the ranks of the enemy. When the fever abates they are weak and tame. They believe they can shift into the soul of a mighty snow leopard when they do this. Apprentice ◦ Drengr When kits reach the age of six moons, the King/Queen assigns a mentor to them. At times a mentor and drengr can be from two different camps and in that case the drengr moves to the mentor's camp. They are trained how to catch fish from iced over ponds, traverse the treacherous snowy terrain and scale sheer, ice-slick cliffs. But most of all they are trained on how to enter states of fury and how to take down their opponent using anything at their disposal. Drengr do not accompany berserkers on raids. Elders When a cat besides any of those in high positions gets to a certain age, the clan can no longer care for them. Due to the low resources and food, they cannot afford to waste food for the old and weak as other clans do. Thus for the betterment of the clan, elders commit ritual suicide by throwing themselves from the Mountain of Trials into the icy abyss below. It is considered an honor to do this for their clan, one that they believe will grant them access to StarClan.
